PRIOR TO TAIWAN
Apply for Visa
The Teacher has to apply for and obtain a tourist visa (preferably 60 day) for entry to Taiwan at a nearby consulate (Detailed location and contact information, please refer to TECO Offices)where the Teacher is located. Since most schools will not apply a work permit for a teacher outside of Taiwan, you will have to get a Visitor's Visa to gain access into Taiwan.
There are essentially two (2) types of visas: Single-Entry and Multi Entry. Both visas can be altered into a work visa, though multi-entry visas will be more expensive and are hardly given.
Please note that only a VISITOR VISA can be changed into a work visa. Those who hold Landing Visas or was granted a Visa Exempt Entry will NOT be able to change their current visa into a work visa.
The duration of the visitor's visa differs depending on the issuing office.
 |
- Fourteen (14) days
- Thirty (30) days
- Sixty (60) days
- Ninety (90) days
|
In some cases, the Visitor's visa issued will have a stamp that have a "no extension will be granted" statement.
You will need the following documents for your visitor's visa application process:
- Passport that will not expire for at least 6 months
- Visitor's visa application form plus 2 passport photos
- Your flight itinerary stating that your return flight is within 60 days
- A recent bank statement that shows a savings of at least $2,000 USD
You will most likely get your tourist visa within 3 – 4 working days.
Document Authentication
According to our regulation, All copies of documents and certificates needed for the application of a work permits and ARC such as graduation diploma and teaching license have to be certified as true copies of the original by a competent authority. Please also bring your original copy with you when a needed verification is required. Further, bring at least 10 color passport sized photos of yourself taken within the last 6 months.
You can verify your documents while you are applying a tourist visa to Taiwan at our overseas TECO office.
Booking A Flight
Please discuss with our overseas coordinator (agent) in our recruiting department as to when would be the best time to arrive in Taiwan. He/she will know when the school would be expecting to meet you for your school interview and when classes would start. If you arrive too early, your waiting time for classes to start would be longer.
Remember, you will not receive pay until you begin teaching. So if you plan to arrive long before classes start, make sure you have enough funds to cover your expenses.
If you arrive too late, classes would have started and you would miss out on that opportunity.
The easiest way to book a flight to Taiwan is through your travel agency. Your travel agent will know which airlines have promotions that provide cheaper tickets.
One-way or round-trip
You need to book a round-trip ticket. Upon arrival in Taiwan, you need to show the immigration officer that you have a ticket out of Taiwan. The destination of the return flight is not important.
 |
It is advisable that you leave the date of the return flight open ended. This leaves you more room to work around your return flight. Also airlines usually charge a service fee for changing flight dates. Once you have your flight itinerary from your travel agent, please provide our overseas education coordinator with the following information: from, arrival date, arrival time, airline, flight number. If possible please forward a copy of the itinerary to your coordinator and EUREKA by email. |
